Self-Care Is Not Selfish: Why Parents Need to Take Care of Themselves
Parents often place their own well-being at the bottom of the priority list. Yet taking care of ourselves helps us remain patient, emotionally available, and resilient for our children. Discover why small, consistent acts of self-care can benefit both parents and families.

Dear Parents,
As parents, we spend so much of our time focused on our families, our work, and everything that needs to get done. In the process, it is surprisingly easy to put our own well-being at the bottom of the list.
But self-care is not selfish. Taking care of ourselves is what helps us remain even-minded, patient, and emotionally available to our children, especially during demanding seasons.
September is Self-Care Awareness Month, making this a good time to remind ourselves that self-care does not have to mean making dramatic changes. Often, small, consistent steps in the right direction are what we need.
For me, one of those small steps is simply taking a walk.
It is easy for me to get caught up in one thing after another and keep putting it off. But even a short walk gives me a chance to step away, clear my mind, and come back with a little more energy and perspective.
In fact, after writing this message, I saved it as a draft and decided to go for a 15-minute walk! Guess what? My wife and older son joined me, and that made the walk even more joyful!
What is your small action for self-care today?
I would love to hear from you. Reply to this email and share one small thing you have done recently, or plan to do, to take better care of yourself. It could be a walk, a few quiet minutes, getting to bed earlier, reading something you enjoy, or simply giving yourself permission to slow down.
Wishing you and your family a joyful September!
